Re-imagining Childhood

A focus on the importance and future of childhood & creativity

The Re-imagining Childhood event brings together a wonderful group of leading thinkers and creative professionals to explore the possibility of a different kind of childhood for our children, one that values the power of the imagination. The event aims to engage everyone in a meaningful debate about contemporary childhood and the impact of this on our society by asking big questions about children’s lives, such as ‘What kind of people do we want young children to grow up to be?’ and ‘How can we learn in and through the arts?’

We hope everyone will want to get involved and help re-imagine a more compassionate world for children with the arts at the heart of our lives.

With inspiring talks, creative workshops and presentations, the Re-imagining Childhood event is aligned with Bath’s free annual Forest of Imagination contemporary arts event and core festival partners include Bath Festivals, The National Trust, the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and the Crafts Council.

International Festival of Childhood 2017

29 June – 2 July 2017, City of Bath

What does modern childhood look like? What rights should young children have? How are we protecting child and family health and wellbeing? How can we share and celebrate the vital importance of early nurture, playfulness and creativity, movement and exploration, connection with nature, wonder and awe?

An internationally important conference, embedded with a city-wide profusion of creative activities, the first ever International Festival of Childhood is taking place in Bath in the summer of 2017 and everyone is invited to come.

About IFC2017

The first of its kind in the world, the Festival consists of a 4 day seminar, bringing together some of the leading thinkers to share their thoughts , concerns and ideas about modern childhood, surrounded by an extravaganza of playful events and activities. As part of their commitment to becoming a UNICEF Child Friendly City,  the City of Bath is hosting  the event and (although the seminar tickets will be limited)  everyone is invited to join in the fun.

The Festival is the result of a collaboration between The Save Childhood Movement and the Bath-based cultural organisation 5x5x5=creativity.  It will be aligned with Bath’s annual Forest of Imagination contemporary arts event and core festival partners include Bath Festivals, The National Trust and the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
